M2 Sensei

Michael McMillian aka M2 aka Sensei

Michael was a devoted husband and motorcycle enthusiast. Michael started riding with the Sandies back in February 2004. He racked up an impressive 41,934 miles with the club, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of miles he put on tracks, courses, streets, and highways. 1,024 of those miles was accomplished on a FZ1 (Yamaha) in less than 24 hours. He did it with nine other Sandies on April 21, 2007, and always said he was really glad that he accomplished that feat, as it taught him that he was not ever interested in doing anything like that ever again.

Michael was a rider coach first and foremost. He always prioritized teaching others over most everything else. He made a point to show up to Skills and Fun Sunday whenever he could just to help less experienced riders feel more comfortable controlling their bikes. He was passionate about safety, and loved to make sure everyone had access to the resources they needed. He went out of his way to educate and support fellow Sandies as well as other motorcyclists across the country. He really loved the Sand Dollar Motorcycle Club, and once commented that there was no other club out there that had so few rules.

We will all miss M2's "precision" riding (weaving and dodging imaginary obstacles), perpetual randomness of motorcycle type mismatch for the ride planned, his masculine cup holder and bendy straw usage, and the constant reminders that we need to account for extra bathroom breaks. I know I will miss his animated story telling and tactful use of bad puns/dad jokes.

Got to know Michael when we worked the stop at Liza Jackson 7-8 years ago. We talked about his being in jewelry business, my real estate career, & lots of other stuff. We discovered our political leanings were similar & later learned we both shared similar political satire authors as well as certain political cartoonists. As an older rider that started later in life, his lessons were invaluable and probably saved lives. I’ll miss you my friend. If you happen to run into my wife or daughter, lie & tell them I’m behaving.
